Improving the quality of training and exercises is a breakthrough and a consistent content in the process of building the “elite, compact, strong” and modernised Tank and Armour forces, which has been intensely led, directed and implemented by the Tank and Armour Corps’ Party Committee and Command with many practical and effective solutions.
In recent years, together with drastically adjusting the force structure, building the political, ideological and organisational strength, the Tank-Armour Corps has paid special attention to the renovation, improving the quality of training and exercise to make a breakthrough in improving the overall quality and combat power, assuring that the Corps successfully accomplish all assigned tasks, well proving the tradition of “Surely winning once deployed” in the new conditions.
Although there are still many difficulties as most of the weapons and equipment are in poor condition, unsynchonous and unreliable; the level of cadres’ knowledge and experience is unequal; the training grounds have been narrowed which fails to meet the standard, with its high effort and determination, the Corps has achieved many significant results. The most important one is that the thought, awareness and responsibility of all-level party committees and commands, cadres and soldiers have been much improved.
The leadership, direction and management in training have been strict, synchronous and thorough. The contents, programmes and methods of training and exercise have been continuously reformed, timely updating the development of science, technology and combat art suitably with the features and missions of the Tank and Armoured forces. The organisation of contests, competitions, training, evaluation and re-examinations has been strictly and effectively conducted. The Corps has successfully held various contests and competitions, including “The good tank crew”, “The good tank and armour platoon”, “The training cadres contest”, etc., contributing to improving the capability for cadres and soldiers in all units in the Corps and the entire army as the basis to improve the training.

Now that the tasks of building the Army, reinforcing the national defence and safeguarding the Fatherland have new developments, setting higher goals and requirements for the Tank and Armour forces, to complete all the assigned tasks, the Corps’ Party Committee and Command advocate continuously making breakthroughs in improving the quality of training and exercises with many effective solutions as follow.
Continuing to reform the thinking, improving the leading, directing and managing capabilities for all-level party committees and commands on the tasks of training and exercise
The reality has shown that the training is only organised strictly and synchronously in units whose the party committees and commands have right thinking and high determination, and vice versa. Learning from this experience, the Corps requires all offices, units and schools to continue thoroughly grasping the resolutions, directives and orders on training; proactively building their own specialised resolutions, action programmes and plans with suitable goals and criteria to their functions, tasks, structures, staff, weapons and technical equipment, focusing on the effective implementation of the Resolution of the 12th Congress of Corps Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term, and Resolution No. 17-NQ/ĐU, dated 30 March 2023 by the Corps Party Committee on improving the training quality in the 2023-2030 period and beyond, creating a solid foundation for holding training and exercises in the Corps and all Tank and Armour units in the entire Army.
To gain high effectiveness, the Corps gives priority to reforming the leadership methods and improving the efficiency of training management in a “focused, united, synchronous, effective and non-overlapping” way; strengthens the decentralisation and empowerment, clearly defines the responsibility of the party committees, commands and departments in consulting, directing and implementation; takes the training results of crews and groups as the criteria to evaluate the task completion of collectives and individuals.
All departments, units and schools in the Corps are to enhance education, improve the awareness and responsibility, build the will and determination of their cadres and soldiers for the task of training; renew the education contents and forms in a practical and effective manner, combine the Determined-to-win Emulation Movement with building the “Good training units”, strictly implement the “3 reals”, firmly prevent the expression of subjectivity, simplicity, formalism, and the “credit mania” in training. At the same time, it is necessary to enhance the check, inspection and re-examination of training; strictly maintain the summaries and review; timely discover and correct all shortcomings and weaknesses in the leadership, direction and execution of training.
Making breakthroughs in improving the training quality and skills for all-level cadres
In response to the requirements for force development, weapons and equipment, combat art of tank and armour force, it is required that cadres obtain not only knowledge but also the comprehensive capability in commanding and conducting training, meeting the demands for the modern warfare. Thoroughly understanding this, the Corps has been intensely leading and directing the all-round improvement of cadres, especially the ones who advise, direct, manage and conduct training, i.e. knowledge, methods and skills. To gain the effectiveness, together with selecting cadres for regular courses in academies and schools, the Corps requires its departments and units to hold training for their cadres in their authority; choose the right cadres, suitable training contents and time; resolutely prevent any expression of formalism and credit mania; combine regular training with in-service training, and training in reality, exercises, contests, competitions, etc.,. It is expected that 100% of cadres are able to conduct training, in which 75% are rated good and excellent (over 35% are excellent).
Together, the Corps requires the party committees and commands of all units to use young and capable cadres to do new, difficult and unexpected tasks, as a way to test and train them in order to evaluate their true competence, qualities and prospect. Also, attention should be paid to building the democratic, disciplined and healthy working environment; complete the policies on encouraging and protecting cadres who dare to think, dare to do, and dare to hold accountability for the common tasks. This is to motivate them to commit to work and develop their capacity, contributing to improving the level of training and combat readiness in the new situation.

Reforming contents and methods of training and exercises closely to the combat reality
The Corps continues to renovate the training and exercises in the focused and suitable way to participants, organisations and the development of science and art of modern warfare. Regarding contents, it is to focus on checking, adjusting and completing the training programme practically and suitably to the reality. Continue to enhance the review and research issues related to the tank and armour forces in recent military conflicts in the world, and put them into training curricula, especially complete the training textbooks on the tank and armour forces preventing UAV, etc. In training, it is necessary to closely follow the “basic, practical, solid” motto, attach importance to training on exploiting and mastering weapons and equipment, the new and modern ones in particular; focus on improving the command capability, and the exploitation and usage of existing and new weapons and equipment; increasing the time for practice training, night training and extended field training; improve the mobility, movement, and the prevention of the enemies using high-tech weapons, etc. For training methods, it is to speed up the renovation towards modernity and science; promote the application of IT, simulation technology and digital transformation in the management, command and execution of training.
The Corps pays special attention to renewing the contents and form of military exercises, considering it as the key factor to inspect and evaluate the training results. In the forthcoming time, the Corps increases the organisation of force-on-force exercises, rotary integrated exercises, combined force exercises, etc. in the “short”, “urgent” time condition with relevant scenarios, and the new situations which are researched and built from the recent military conflicts, etc. Concurrently, all units and schools are to proactively change the training grounds and exercise areas, creating conditions for soldiers and cadets to train and handle any situations happened in new grounds, correct their stereotypical thinking, improve their mobility, adaptation and command capability.
As for the schools, it is necessary to promote the renovation of education and training in the way that closely combines the training and exercise at school with the training and combat readiness in units; add the real exercise plans and situations in units into the question bank, build the systems of training topics for officer cadets, crews, technicians, etc., through which, to help all cadets to firmly understand the task requirements, shorten the adaptation time and improve the working effectiveness after graduation, meeting the demands for building the Tank and Armour forces in the new situation.
All tank and armour units in the entire army need to enhance the renovation of training contents and methods, making them suitable to the organisation, staff, weapons, equipment, features of areas, and the tasks of each unit; increase the training courses on new and difficult topics and unresolved issues related to using and mastering the new-generation weapons and equipment, thereby creating the high agreement in the entire forces.
Well conducting support for training and military exercises
The Corps continues to prioritise the best supporting sources for training and military exercises; directs all departments, schools and units to manage and use effectively all provided sources of funds, materials, weapons and equipment, especially the systems of driving and firing simulation, etc.; at the same time, focuses the investment sources on building and upgrading the systems of lecture halls, training and exercise grounds towards standardisation, modernity, and combat-relevance; continues to research and complete the textbooks and documents, gradually modernise the training vehicles, meeting the task requirements in the new situations; closely cooperates with the Viettel Group and functional offices to make research, complete and upgrade simulation softwares in a way that combines the training of driving and firing on tanks and armoured vehicles, assuring the suitability with each participant and level. Concurrently, the Corps enhances the quality improvement of logistic and technical support for training and military exercises; well maintains the technical coefficients of the training equipment, avoids the unsafety in training caused by the technical conditions of weapons and equipment.
With the high political determination, the synchronous and creative methods, the Tank and Armour Corps continues to create breakthroughs in improving the quality of training and military exercises, building the “revolutionary, regular, highly-skilled, modernised” Tank and Armour forces, which could successfully accomplish all assigned missions.
